Noah and Ali have known each other since they could barely walk and talk. Our families have been best friends for decades… and sometime last year, they realized that they were totally in love. So it’s not every day that you get to see your little baby brother propose to one of your very best friends in the middle of the wilderness. I’m not a crier, but I definitely teared up from my brushy lakeside hideaway, watching him get down on one knee.
The next day I suggested that we do an engagement shoot up there, even though neither of them had brought any clothing that would normally be considered appropriate for a photoshoot. But I wanted it to feel totally natural, and to be reminiscent of all of the years we’ve spent going up to the Boundary Waters together. Ali’s quintessential wool plaid shirt and Noah’s trusty bright red fleece, complete with camping pants and dirty hair, felt just right to me (especially since Ali is brimming with natural beauty anyway). I absolutely cannot wait to stand up with them next year as Ali’s maid of honor. Love you both so much!
